My Materials
Professional grade materials and unconventional tools make up the supplies I use to create. Standards matter, its important that every painting starts with the high quality paint and substrates.

Winsor & Newton Professional Acrylic is my primary brand but I also use Liquitex and Golden with a few stray brands thrown in if I’m especially drawn to one of their colors.

For the purposes of this description, I will define Mixed Media as any pigmented material that is not paint.
I use acrylic inks in most of my work. FW and Liquitex, though FW is my favorite ink. I also use Derwent Inktense Ink Pencils, Lyra Aquacolor Crayons, Caran D’Ache wax oil pastels and Posca paint pens make up the lions share of mixed media supplies I incorporate.

Paper is my absolute favorite substrate. I love the way paper receives the paint, canvas simply can’t replicate it. Which is fine, canvas has its own qualities and purposes and I do use both but paper… well, its just scrumptious.
I have two favorite brands: Strathmore, both the 300 and 400 Series and Fabriano hot press watercolor paper. I’d have a hard time choosing one over the other - they both make gorgeous paper.

Gallery wrapped 1.5” deep canvas is absolute. Though brands may vary slightly my favorite brand is ‘The Edge’ by Creative Mark.
Canvas is expensive so when one of my go-to bards goes on sale, I stock the studio.

Nothing is off limits where tools are concerned if it will give me the marks I’m looking for!
I have and use conventional tools, brushes and pallet knives but there is a whole world of creativity that opens up when using something unconventional.
Silicon spatulas are among my favorite and the kitchen is my top go to resource to hunt for ‘just the right thing’.
I have used toys, straws, forks, sticks, twigs and leaves just to name a few.
